What is an Anime like Death Note?

Looking for an Anime series that is more geared towards a battle of wits and intelligence like Death Note was and less people shooting fire balls and flying around with funky hair.

Code Geass? It was very “Just As Planned,” and I enjoyed it a good deal. Political intrigue and all that. There are still some odd looking characters with weird hair (more so in the second season because of time slot reasons), but it’s still fun.
In that sense, you might like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It’s much more about the political controversy, though the action is very present as well.
I second Monster and Ghost in the Shell. I also recommend Akagi, though it takes a couple of episodes to get used to the drawing style, it is a great anime. I also recommend Speed Grapher and Ergo Proxy.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Ergo Proxy, but then I never got to watch the whole series. Similar to this is Serial Agent Lane, which is really trippy. You will have no idea what that series is about until the end.

Ive been out of the anime loop since i watched Death Note (watched it in Japanese as it released) but have never been able to find anything comparing to it.
Try Code Geass, it’s really interesting. And I haven’t read it before but apparantly there is a manga called code breaker that is similar. Check codebreaker out at www.onemanga.com and Code Geass Lelouch Of The Rebellion and the second season R2 at www.animefreak.tv you can turn dubs and subs on and off if you wish. It’s a really good site and their stuff is high quality.
i dont really think there ws anything LIKE death note and thats what made it so great
