Hear About The OTHER Lord of the Rings?

Asked by TheKNYHT (686points) March 4th, 2009

How many of you know about the BBC Radio play production of The LORD of the RINGS, with Ian Holm and an excellent supporting cast? This was produced in the early 80s I believe, and in this radio play, Ian Holm actually plays FRODO (not Bilbo) Baggins. It originally aired as 13 1-hour episodes, and is available on CD in its own attractive case. Any of you who’ve heard this, or even seen the P Jackson films that would like to discuss this, let me know.

I haven’t heard of this one but it sounds pretty cool. I’ll have to look into buying that. I’m a huge LotR fan.

Did you hear about The Beatles wanting to do a version of Lord of the Rings? John Lennon as Gollum, rofl

A Beatle that was almost a Stoor? Yes I recall hearing something about that: intriguing!
I likewise am a “Tolkein Freek” and love all things Middle Earth.
I’m listening to the BBC Productions on my walk man at work (they let us listen to our devices as we work) and thoroughly enjoying it. Peter Woodthorp I believe is the actor who does the voice of Gollum, and he sounds truly menacing and pathetic as well. Personally I would have preferred him rather than Andy Serkis (who to me sounds rather like a demonic Donald Duck: really! pull out the dvd and close your eyes and listen! lol).
Anyway, I highly recommend the BBC production to any and all Tolkien fans. Namarie!
