Ever hear of a form of OCD where the person constantly gets invasive thoughts?

Apparently there is a form of OCD where the individual gets invasive thoughts (NOT accompanied by the typical OCD actions like excessive handwashing, etc.) which make it difficult for the person to pay full attention to movies, television, or even conversations. Ever hear of it? How is it treated?

sounds like a mix of schizophrenia, though I’m not a professional about mental disorders… but I though schizophrenia was a disorder where you had invasive thoughts, or voices that were in your head.

I’ve never heard of this though. But I can imagine how invasive thoughts could get in the way of movies, TV, or conversations. I would imagine it would be treated in similar ways to a schizo patient, but I don’t know.

@RandomMrdan , no, it’s not schizophrenia. Not voices, just thoughts. And the thoughts aren’t crazy but more like a real daydream. Only to be point of being obsessed and the individual can’t stop thinking about them at the worse times.

Heard of it? Hell I have it. My therapist told me it is a form of OCD, just like you said. Medication helps. A lot.

Yup, that’s my understanding, too @augustlan. OCD can also be obsessive thoughts.

Some people call this kind of OCD “pure-O,” meaning that it is made up solely by obsessions, rather than compulsions. However, it is usually the case that there are are mental compulsions that accompany the unwanted thoughts, even if there aren’t any physical compulsions. For example, someone with an unwanted thought may avoid settings where they fear that they may be triggered. Or, one may count silently in one’s head to “rid” oneself of the thought. Obsessions are usually accompanied by some sort of compulsion, even if the compulsion is mental and not physical.

I get intrusive thoughts about my mom and stuff and incest and I don’t like it and I obsess over it and it makes me feel like a bad person , it usually happens when I’m masturbating and I try blocking the thoughts and focus on what in masturbating to , but the thoughts in the back of my head and I’m afraid ill end up fantasizing about my mom when I’m masturbating so masturbating is a terror for me , I don’t like thinking of my mom in that way at all :(

Hi, @Ollie319
I’m sorry to hear that you have been suffering from intrusive thoughts. That can be really hard. I hope that you have a doctor or therapist who you can talk to about your problem. There are ways to get better!
