Any suggestions for cute little foods I can bring to a tea party?

Asked by juniper (1910points) March 11th, 2009

My friend is very into her tea parties. Guests have been asked to bring something cute and bite-sized. And I don’t think she means mini sausages on toothpicks.

Any suggestions?

Lemon cake, or lemon cookies, ect. Try something sweet with lemon in it (:

You could do a mini crab cocktail. Or mini quiches.

I like little sandwiches, too: watercress, ham, tomato, cucumber. Scones are traditional, with clotted cream and jam.

Here are some other recipes for high tea.

-Mini quiches, made from scratch or purchased in bulk at the grocery store (Sam’s Club and Costco have great ones!)

-Gourmet bite-size BLTs (my friend makes these by taking whole wheat toast squares and topping with light mayo, a little garden lettuce and tomato, and then small pieces of bacon, soooo… good)
She also has a version which is amazing that is toast square with melted goat cheese, lettuce, tomato, and tender lamb meat—> a great option for a more sophisticated taste!

-Mini cheesecakes or cupcakes – you can buy tiny (about 1” wide by .5” tall) silicon moldings for these at most cooking/baking stores

-Crepes (with variety of fillings – including sweet) cut up into pieces with toothpicks

Petit fours, cucumber and prosciutto mini sandwiches, duchess potatoes (whipped potatoes eggs light s&p- pipe with pretty piping tip onto parchment into a cookie-sized florets, top with paprika and bake until light brown), mini bagels with lox (sprinkle smoked salmon with a touch of lemon pepper season, place on mini bagels with cream cheese and top with chives. Make any fancy sandwich you can think of and make them cute by using an itsy bitsy circle cookie cutter. Wrap them up like little packages by tying philo dough strips into ribbons around them and bake for a couple minutes in the oven. That takes some patience, though.
