Asked by Staalesen (2722points) March 11th, 2009

I am looking to commision a drawing, inspired by the Dark Tower series, but I do not know where (or who) I can turn to for such a job.

Have you contacted Stephen Kings publishers?

I’m not sure if Etsy lets you commission drawn pieces, but it would be a great place to start looking (they may have a link to a more suitable commission board).

The short answer:
Find an artist whose work you think will work then contact them and ask if they take commissions.

the more in-depth answer
If you find an artist willing to work with you the price quote will be dependent on these factors:

Your purpose for the drawing- if it is for commercial use a licensing fee may apply
The value of the artist- what their market price is
The detail and size you wish to have created.

Also keep in mind copyright infringement. While it is acceptable to have work created in the style of a movie, book or other protected work it is not acceptable to have work that violates copyright. Keep in mind that most legit artists will not risk legal action and will not knowingly violate the copyright of another.

There are some terrific and skilled studio artists here, none of whom are my personal friends so I cannot be accused of pimping.

Oh, no It is not from the dark tower, just inspired by it…
and no commercial ideas here… more mantelpiece ideeas :p

A possibly cheap approach to this would be to look at some local artists gallery exhibitions, or even student exhibitions in your area, the gallery will have contact details if you like the work and wish to discuss a commision.

Also, does it have to be a drawing? You might find when your looking that an artist might be able to do something fantastic in paints.

Go to a comic convention…artists galore, in that genre, that would love to help you.
