How much can I bring the price down on a new Vespa?

Asked by peedub (8708points) March 18th, 2009

I’m looking at a 2009 model priced at $4200 and have been told by two dealers there’s an additional ‘handling/freight’ fee of around $700+. It seems like a hidden charge but who knows.
I have experience buying new automobiles and have always managed to lower the MSRP but am new to the world of modern scooters. Any tips? One dealer has already said, over the phone, they would “work with me (on lowering ‘the fee’) and beat any price.”

Bounce the two off each other until they negotiate down to their lowest amount, then go visit them in person and bring cash to buy that day. In my experience, people are a bit more willing to negotiate when they see that cash all right there ready to be theirs. I would set in advance in your mind a price that is acceptable to you, and buy the Vespa the second one of the dealers hits that number.
