What kind of man would most women prefer?

Asked by Garebo (3190points) March 18th, 2009

The average, ordinary Joe (health, wealth, looks) that feels good about himself and makes you feel good and/or proud of yourself, or the super sexy, good looking man who is – proud, arrogant, successful, wealthy, and temperamental.

They want the one they can’t have. Till they grow up. Then, I dunno.

gailcalled's avatar

Aren’t there a whole range of other choices? (And both of your picks are wealthy and good looking, I note.)

Garebo's avatar

I meant to indicate that Joe isn’t a homeless crack head.

elijah's avatar

Not all sexy men are arrogant and temperamental.

Bluefreedom's avatar

They’d probably prefer someone like me. I’m like Mary Poppins – “practically perfect in every way”.

AstroChuck's avatar

I would guess the one I see in the mirror each day.
He’s gorgeous!

Garebo's avatar

Of course, not all sexy men are arrogant and temperamental, but there are some.
I guess it would be hard to be perceived as sexy if you were arrogant and temperamental all the time.

eponymoushipster's avatar

my initial response is that they all want me, but given that some have rather poor taste (i.e. – the few who don’t want me), i’m gonna have to venture that it depends on level of stupidity.

Mr_M's avatar

They would prefer one with big feet. Did I mention I have big feet?

eponymoushipster's avatar

@Mr_M is that the same as having a big Hummer and talking loudly, often uttering the term “bro” and “whatev’s”?

Mr_M's avatar

Yes, it’s the same as having a big Hummer. (What’s a Hummer?)

elijah's avatar

It’s not the size of your Hummer, it’s how you drive it.

Mr_M's avatar

@elijahsuicide then I guess you can say I’m like Mario Andretti.

KatawaGrey's avatar

I prefer nerds. Whether wealthy, dirt poor, into computers or cards or sci-fi or some wonderful combination thereof, that’s my kind of guy. To me nerds are the epitome of sexiness. :)

Could Mario Andretti handle a Hummer? i thought he drove a small, yet fast car…

Garebo's avatar

I think I am going to begin acting like a nerd and learn to drive well!

Mr_M's avatar

@KatawaGrey , I have a pocket protector and a slide rule, too!

KatawaGrey's avatar

@Mr_M: Tee-hee! Bats eyelashes

Mr_M's avatar

Put me in your Fluther!!

KatawaGrey's avatar

Oh, I’ll put you in my fluther. ;)

Mr_M's avatar

I’ll even wear my penny loafers.

KatawaGrey's avatar

Scandalous!

Bring your Star Trek DVDs too…

Mr_M's avatar

@KatawaGrey and YOU take me “where no man has gone before” (OK, maybe a few men have been there).

KatawaGrey's avatar

@Mr_M: And they’ve all been nerds! ;)

SeventhSense's avatar

Ok you two get a room

marinelife's avatar

Do all men want the same thing in a woman or the same kind of woman? All women do not want the same thing in a man either.

Good thing or those out in the cold outside the narrow realm of desirable would be very lonely.

KatawaGrey's avatar

@SeventhSense: So you don’t want to watch Next Generation with us?

@Marina: Great point! Lurve for a good answer.

Mr_M's avatar

“Next Generation”? Is THAT what they’re calling it now?

asmonet's avatar

Yeah, I’m with Kat. Give me a goofy nerd over a man from a magazine any day.

AlfredaPrufrock's avatar

My choice is “C”, intelligent, good sense of humor, can see when something needs fixing without being told and proactively does so. And likes my cooking.

mcbealer's avatar

I <3 guys with sweet skills

wundayatta's avatar

I’m pretty sure that most women prefer men who are alive!

Mr_M's avatar

See, now, for ME, that’s not a factor.

wundayatta's avatar

@Mr_M: no really, you ought to try it. Living women are a hoot! (Plus, they are warmer, more intelligent, and just generally more fun [wink, wink]).

Mr_M's avatar

I would but these are bad economic times. Living women make me spend more!

Do you have any idea how LITTLE dead women eat?

wundayatta's avatar

@Mr_M: I can sympathize, dude, I really can. But, sometimes you just gotta suck it up, and take one for the team. I have no idea what that means! I think it’s supposed to be guy talk.

Mr_M's avatar

I guess.

Garebo's avatar

I guess I am narrow-minded and want the same thing in a women, whatever it may be.

KatawaGrey's avatar

But, @Mr_M, I’m alive!

casheroo's avatar

i felt awkward reading this thread

Most women? I don’t know. I think all women really just want someone that truly loves them. Not a man they have to act like someone else in front of. I am completely honest with my husband, I can tell him anything. He doesn’t judge me. He loves me no matter what. That is what I hope most women would want. I don’t care about money, or having the nicest things…I knew going into my relationship with my husband that we would struggle. We are in this life together, no matter what.

augustlan's avatar

The one I have. :)

Likeradar's avatar

Of the two stereotypes you mentioned, I’ll take the first every time. But I think you’re looking at things too narrowly.

anne09's avatar

Those which are faithful and honest!!!

eadinad's avatar

One that doesn’t generalize about women.

Garebo's avatar

then, I wonder why the majority of hollywood actresses are rarely hitched to an ordinary joe.

Likeradar's avatar

@Garebo I think you’re operating under the assumption that there are only 2 kinds of men. How do you know these actresses aren’t with good looking, rich men who also make them feel good about themselves?

elijah's avatar

@Garebo Hollywood actresses are surrounded by actors, singers, directors, etc. They rarely have the opprotunity to have lunch with a plumber, mechanic, or teacher. Also I would assume that actresses, like anyone else in the world, want to be with someone who understands and appreciates her lifestyle. As she most likely has her own money, I doubt that his income is a major concern.

Garebo's avatar

I would think if I were a regulat women, I would want to be hitched up with the highly successful arrogant man because I would get lots of attention, and I would never have to worry about money. I could live my lifestyle I want, and if he didn’t like it, I could leave him and become more rich and famous.

elijah's avatar

@Garebo there’s the little problem of him wanting to be with you, too.

Likeradar's avatar

@Garebo Are you really saying you care more about attention and money than being with someone who treats you really well and who’s company you enjoy?

Garebo's avatar

We have to make some assumptions.

Likeradar's avatar

@Garebo sure, we have to make some assumptions if you want to ask baseless hypothetical questions using examples of people you don’t know…

gailcalled's avatar

@Garebo: I don’t know whether you are baiting us or not. But arrogant men are usually too full of themselves to know how to be sweet and loving…and generally have terrible love relationships.

elijah's avatar

A lot of men that aren’t good looking are arrogant too, they like to brag about how much money they make and how only shallow people care about looks. I know a lot of guys who are mad at the world.

elijah's avatar

So I guess the bottom line is most people would rather be with someone who is nice and well mannered, regardless of their financial situation or physical presentation.
I say most people, but there will always be the 50 year old men who only date 21 year old blonde models, and there will always be women who think a mans muscles or wallet are most important.

Garebo's avatar

Ok we now know; wealth and looks take a back seat to the compassionate man-hurray!

tiffyandthewall's avatar

the first one! if there was just a choice between those 2, i’d have no problem going for the nice ‘average’ dude.
