Me smells homework maybe… Yes?

Why don’t you Google it? or look in your chemistry textbook… or the notes from class

studying for science olympiad, trying to understand these concepts. Not homework tho…

@abh94 Well, nevermind what it may be for. There are tons of science smart jellies. I’m sure you’ll get your answer in no time. Good luck.

1) Biuret reagent turns purple when there are proteins and pink when you mix it with polypeptides.
2) Benedict’s solution tests for sugars, like glucose.
9) Bromothymol blue is used to test for acids and bases. Color depending on how weak it is.

And that’s all I remember from chem. Hope it’s right.

If you are studying, look in the book. Welcome to the collective. When you have a moment, please check out the Fluther Guidelines.

Do your own homework….

1st of all, it’s not homework. 2nd, i don’t have a chemistry book to study this since i m not a sophomore. Next, i looked through wikipedia, but it does not cover all of them. All i was looking for is someone who could shed some light on these topics!

The internet is more than just wikipedia. Not trying to be harsh here, but you can easily find the answers with some simple looking.

Dude come on. I find it very hard to believe that your actually studying this but dont know what pH paper is for. Thats probably one of the most basic things covered. Stop being so lazy and find your way over to google. Each and everyone of those things can be found in about two minutes of looking. Fluther will not do your homework for you.

If this really wasn’t for homework and you were just “looking for is someone who could shed some light on these topics” you would have phrased the question much differently like i understand that “Biuret reagent turns purple when there are proteins and pink when you mix it with polypeptides.” but i was hoping someone could explain yada yada yada.

Alright, i know the following:

1) protein or amino acids
2) simple sugar
4) starch
7) pH
9) acids and bases

I don’t know the rest, and i’m wondering if there’s more to the ones i already know. Of course, i will search the internet myself, but it is not always clearly explained.

Im pretty sure google is still located at www.google.com…..

More important than doing well in the Science Olympiad, is learning to use Google properly. It’s a life skill.
