Should there be emoticons on fluther?

Asked by prasad (3859points) March 23rd, 2009

Do you think there should be emoticons/smilies on fluther? Can it be included while answering on fluther? Or can they be jellyticons? I mean, different pictures of the above jelly fish with different emotions.
What do you think?

It’s much more fun to come up with a good word…

No. This is undebatable.

Fluther will lose many a seasoned member if emoticons come into play.

Nope, words are the best tool we have. And a well placed ~ will convey your sarcasm. We do throw the occasional :) around though.

No. Fluther is perfect the way it is now.

No, as many wis.dm-ers are noticing, we take a somewhat serious approach to our playfulness here. Ben, Andrew, the mods, and the community have created a place where we don’t txtspeak or lolcat chat. I think this falls into the same category. Real words, properly spelled, with decent grammar are our way of communicating anything we need to communicate.

Some people on the site use the occasional smiley or tilde to denote they are kidding or sarcasm, but I think that’s mostly when what they’ve said strong butts against a position they could be taking and they want to make it clear they are not.

No. Smilies annoy me no end. I’ll use the occasional

:P

but that’s as far as it goes.

No. I like literate and articulate people, and emoticons remove the necessity of finding the word that means what you want to say, or phrasing your answer so that sarcasm or humor comes across.

Sorry, wis.dm-ers. Most of us are major word nerds here.

Seems flutherists love fluther as it is of now. Good to hear that!
