In line with the question about user breakdown by nationality.

I have never seen an ad or anything about this site before, so I suppose they only advertised in their home market..

@Jack_Haas – I don’t know if Fluther advertises, as such. I only found out about this place because of a response to a question about sites like this at MetaFilter. Most social sites I’ve seen seem to have a majority presence of USians, and not too many other people from other places, whether English is the first language or not. It’s strange to me, too, that’s for sure.

Actually the other site wis.dmers contemplated moving to is minekey, which is close to Fluther and Wis.dm in style, and is HQ’d in the US but has a majority of members from outside the anglosphere.

I think it is a simple matter of the fact that it started here. Its PR efforts naturally, like those of most businesses in the US, start at home.

Fluther originates from the US. Also, they got a lot of visitors because their iPhone app was featured in some Apple site that brought a lot of people here, and IIRC the iPhone was only released in the US back then.

It just hasn’t taken hold in a global capacity yet but it will. We American Jellies stand ready to welcome the world into our collective. Come one, come all. We encourage your input and participation.

@Bluefreedom Non-American Jelly, present and correct! **raises hand** :)
