Were the new guidelines posted in response to the influx of wis.dm-ers?

Asked by KatawaGrey (21483points) March 24th, 2009

I know this is a yes or no question, but I’m curious as to whether or not the two events are directly related or if they just happened to coincide.

I’m pretty sure Google can’t answer this one. :)

No, the new guidelines have been on the agenda for sometime now, although, personally, I don’t see a huge difference between the old guidelines except the mention of the chat room.

Just my impression.

No- they were in the works long before you arrived.

No, they weren’t. They’ve been in the works for a while. The influx just gave me a kick in the pants to finish them off quickly.

There is a special wis.dm FAQ here.

Also, for everyone… try to remember to post off-topic comments in whispers… like this.

Psst, Katawa is an old member…

@andrew Remind us how to do off topic chatter…can I do that on an iPhone?

IT’S OK TO ASK A YES/NO QUESTION! The majority of the questions in the world are that! :)

@andrew: I’m young at heart. ;)

@miasmom Use this LINK on your iPhone. It does work but can be a bit trying with the small screen.

@DutchCat I am really enjoying having you as part of the collective. You have had some fun and interesting input. One thing that is not so great, is that we do not shout on Fluther.

You can give emphasis to your text with the characters at the bottom of the text input box:

strong ital, etc.

@EmpressPixie Oh- I had not noticed who wrote the Q and made the false assumption that it was from someone who had not been here to see the threads regarding new guidelines in the works. My apologies!

@DutchCat Take a look at the guidelines. If you have a hard time accepting them, I suggest you find another community.

@Dog : It’s all right. I just figured you meant the new guidelines had been in the works since before last September (when I joined). :)

very cool, thank you @andrew

I’m sure it was directed at us

Allie's avatar

@dearest_prudence I’m curious as to if you read the rest of the thread? A founder of Fluther explains that it wasn’t directed at anyone.

dearest_prudence's avatar

@Allie so this banner for the guidelines was always up there?
on the homepage?
that seems a bit odd
I realize the guidelines themselves were always there, that would be a given, but when I very first arrived, the guidelines banner was not there

EmpressPixie's avatar

@dearest_prudence: There are announcements up there from time to time. They cover all sorts of things—guidelines, site maintenance, welcoming big groups when we have an influx for whatever reason, or any other big announcements.

dearest_prudence's avatar

@empresspixie- so, the guidelines were a big announcement for no apparent reason as we were showing up
thanx for clearing that up for me

jonsblond's avatar

@dearest_prudence Many of us have been waiting for the new guidelines for a couple weeks now. Please don’t take it personal.

dearest_prudence's avatar

@jonsblond – thank you
it just seemed odd to me that they would show up at this point in time
the same point in time as we showed up
don’t get me wrong, I do try my best to follow rules and I am not offended, some of our more rambunctious wis.dmrs need to be aware, but to me, just arriving, what else would it look like?

jonsblond's avatar

@dearest_prudence Like Andrew explained above, you all just gave him the kick in the butt that he needed to finish the new guidelines. I can see where you are coming from though.

I don’t know if I have told you personaly, but welcome to fluther! :)

dearest_prudence's avatar

@jonsblond – no, I understood that, and I am glad you understand what I was saying

and

thank you for the welcome:)

Actually, there was a whole discussion on guidelines and community behavior the week before you guys showed up.
