I can't seem to get the updated flash player installed so YouTube videos will work - help?

Asked by Trustinglife (6668points) March 26th, 2009

Yes, I’ve uninstalled and re-installed. Still doesn’t work.

When I go to this page, I get this message:

“Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player. Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe’s Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.”

What am I missing? What else can I do?

More info please – what browser, mac or pc?

Sorry – PC. Using Windows XP, with Firefox. But I’ve tried IE, and I get the same problem there too.

Try installing adobe flash players below and try again:
Flash player: http://www.9down.com/Adobe-Flash-Player-10-0-22-87-67781/
Shockwave player: http://www.9down.com/Adobe-Shockwave-Player-11-0-3-472-59981/

And, re-open youtube web page after installing these.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have the current versions of Firefox and Quicktime. I had an error message when I downloaded Java, but I don’t think that’s the problem. I followed the suggestions to upload Shockwave and Flash Player.

I’m going to bed now, but I will shut down the computer and reboot in the morning. I’ll update then. Thanks for your help!

I had the same problem!
Then I read on the Adobe site that you must first uninstall your older Flash Player before installing the new one. If you don’t already have one, the Uninstaller can be downloaded from Adobe.
This worked for me.

Ok, rebooted my computer and I’m still getting the same error message. @Calendar, yes, I had already uninstalled and re-installed Flash Player. I’m open for help again.

Uh…but installing shockwave and flash players worked for me. It would be a silly suggestion but check for your browser (is it up to date? compatible? pop-ups blocked or not), if no update/re-install’em.
To be honest I have no knowledge of JAVA; if it has got anything to do with this.

Browser’s up-to-date, pop-ups are not blocked, and some YouTube videos work fine. It’s still a mystery to me.

If some of them are running, then I think it’s not an issue of flash/shockwave players.
Some videos play only after you’ve logged in on youtube. You may also log in using your gmail ID if you have one.

Try refreshing your web page.

Alas, it’s a mystery to me too!

I’m always logged in on YouTube. And this has been a problem for many, many months, so it’s not a question of refreshing. I appreciate your attempts to help me figure this out.

Hey man, it’s annoying when that happens. Happened to a laptop I was using but the answer lies here in this website http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html whatever is different about this website it makes the flash player work. Its flash player 10. When its downloaded go to the download box (dont close it down) right click and hit open. It’ll ask you to allow it to continue, click continue (or whatever comes up) and in a few seconds it’ll be downloaded. Refresh your youtube or search for the desired video again and bingo working fine. Don’t ask me why the official website doesn’t work but this patch is 100% fine. My youtube is working perfectly now and I had the same problem as you for ages.
