It depends if you do it at gunpoint or not.

I’m pretty sure if there’s a hell you’re going to it. ;)
Though in terms of monetary punishment, probably not much as most “sign stealing” punishments are based off of whether or not someone got hurt (such as if you stole a “road closed” sign and someone drove off a cliff) or whether it was just a pain in the ass to replace. I think it would be a stern talking to and the cost of replacing the sign probably.
