What special qualities do you find are intrinsic to magnetically charismatic people?

Asked by Garebo (3190points) March 29th, 2009

When you are charismatic, people are magnetized to you and want to be with you. When you no longer are charismatic due to life circumstances, or mind set; the opposite often occurs. If you had to narrow down to four chief characteristics of a magnetically charismatic person what would they be?

I think charismatic and charming people tend to make whoever is in their present company feel good about themselves.

Everything that is attributed to charisma comes from understanding and appreciating the basic values that all people possess.

Charisma (I know. Redundant. But necessary for my answer here, though, in my opinion)
Self-confidence
Maturity

Charismatic people are generally

Original – have a different perspective than most people, see things in a different light than most people.
Knowledgeable- have to know what they are talking about to some extent.
Captivating – able to speak while keeping people engaged.
Devoted – care about what they are saying/doing.

Confidence. I think a lot of charisma is about confidence. And that reflects in the energy of the person thus creating the charisma.
This would also make sense in relation to your question. When life gets you down you lose confidence and thus your charisma suffers.

A sort of ephemeral radiance. An ability to make someone feel that they’re the only person in the room. Someone who is a gifted talker AND listener.

So, as someone inferred (or subtly implied to me), then, did Adolph Hitler have magnetic charisma, and if so how. Probably, another question for another tiime.

@Garebo That is what all my history teachers have ever said, that he was a fantastic charismatic speaker and that is why he got some many followers. I’m glad I don’t know personally.

jo_with_no_space's avatar

@Garebo I think he definitely did – he managed to rouse some incredibly strong (if problematic) feelings in others.

Maybe, the German people at the time were so eager to here someone who was so confident and engaging in a message they wanted to here; that people just became sheeple to the cause.

jo_with_no_space's avatar

@Garebo I think there was definitely a sense of great disenfranchisement amongst the German people in the 30s, and Hitler capitalised on that. His message seemed to be on they could identify with, as it seems that Jewish people – who were a very prominent economic elite – were getting a better deal out of the financial crisis than Aryan Germans.

Garebo's avatar

Yes, I think you described the circumstances rather poignantly. So, then, who is the elite in this economic crisis?

jo_with_no_space's avatar

@Garebo Hard for me to say, though it DOES look like our politicians will always have their backs covered.

@ip with no space: It smells a little bit anti-Semitic to me-not a very charismatic quality!
No, I hear where you are coming from, and yes, I think the politicians have too much charisma, and not enough substance.
