Is there a question that shouldn't be asked?

Asked by adri027 (1415points) April 3rd, 2009 from iPhone

I see a lot of questions here that I have thought about asking but never have the balls to. What’s too much for fluther?

I don’t ask many questions any more because I’m sure they’ll just be moderated away anyway.

If you mean on Fluther, I see a lot of questions here that shouldn’t be asked, but they are anyway. It’s a good thing I’m not a mod.

In face to face, you need to be respectful, and consider how close the person is.

I don’t think there’s any question you shouldn’t ask unless it goes against the guidelines (aside from not fitting the formatting, if a question is an attack against a user or something like that).

Homework questions. Never ask jellys to do your homework That is TO MUCH!!

There is not any specific question that can’t (or shouldn’t) be asked, here or in real life. It matters how you ask, and who you ask, but not whether you ask.

but @judi i need someone to do my paper for meeee!

What kinds of questions did you have in mind? Are they of a sexual nature? Just don’t be tasteless.

Questions that bash members of the same site, or the site itself.
Everything else is fair game IMHO.
Otherwise, we are dealing with unfair censorship right?

There is not a single question that should never be asked. But every question has it’s own time and place.

Yes. Here are two:
Do these jeans make me look fat?
What do you think of my new tattoo?

Yeah, but this is just my personal opinion, and no reflection on the asker or fluther. I recently saw one “If you were going to kill yourself, how would you do it?” That is, in my opinion a crass and tasteless question. Maybe it was said in jest, but it’s just those kinds of things that make me wonder ‘what the fuck are people thinking?’ Maybe I am just too close to the subect given my recent situation, but I ignore questions in that vein. (no pun intended)

Exploring the dark side comes with dangers that you had be ready to face. Trust me, I know.

Oh yeah, and the homework questions. Do your own homework, dammit. :-)

The question that periodically shows it’s ugly head without fail:

“How much wood could a wood chuck chuck…”

Judi's avatar

Mr_M; Sometimes those questioners can become productive citizens. I have to admit that was my first assville question when I started there. When I started getting answers right away I figured out how these sites work and was hooked. I hate assville now because they can be so mean and have no moderators, but if it were not for that wood chuck question I would never know what I was missing.

There are some good responses relating to Fluther questions in this thread.

Don’t ask- ladies, how much do you weigh?

Benny's avatar

@SuperMouse Seems like there are a lot of “don’ts”

SuperMouse's avatar

@Benny, there are don’t’s but that is what makes Fluther the great site that it is. Once Flutherer’s get the hang of it, it is a great place to ask questions and read great answers. Hang in there Benny, you’ll get it. I promise!

Benny's avatar

@SuperMouse I doubt it, but thanks.

augustlan's avatar

@Benny I don’t know… I thought you were doing pretty well here.

Benny's avatar

@augustlan I’m just not a big fan of being censored—of having other determine whether or not what I have to say is worthy of discussion. I realize that’s how things are done around here, it just doesn’t fit with my personality. I’m not a troll. I’m reasonably bright. I write in complete sentences, and I try to be thoughtful. I know that if I don’t like it I can leave—which I imagine I will. Thanks for your words of support, though.
