The stem of my glass pipe broke in half. Is there a way to fix it?

Asked by buster (10274points) April 9th, 2009

The stem broke in half. It didnt shatter just a clean break all the way around. I just bought it a week ago cause I broke the last one. Can i just superglue it or JB Weld it back together. Is that safe to smoke thru? Any ideas jellies?

Pipe or bong? Pictures of pipe? How far down the stem?

This happened to me and i know super glue + heat = not a good combo.

I’d say, whenever it’s a glass utensil a break is a break :( No matter what you do, at the spot you reconnect you have different heat conduction than in the surrounding area, so even if it works once or twice my guess is it’ll just crack somewhere else.

Eh, I wouldn’t.
Besides, pipes can be bought for like ten bucks. Just get a new one.

you can buy a new peice for it probably, look online. or get a new one. new peices are always fun.

Or you could give up the habit all together…

I’d just replace it to be safe.

If its the stem to a “water pipe” then perhaps you could buy a gromet or some such to connect the two pieces back together. Finding the right size might be difficult.

What the hell are you doing with your pipes that’s causing you to break one in 2 weeks?! LOL

I wouldn’t try to fix it. I would worry about the adhesive and the heat from lighting it. I would just replace it, then be super careful with it. It sounds like you’re a little accident prone!

Oh, and I would go ahead and spend the money on a nice, good quality pipe. Even $30 can get you something decent that won’t break when you drop it.

I vote for a new pipe.

Superglue would work if the break is not in near the hot part of the pipe. Should keep you going until you can afford a new (less delicate?) one.

You know what, try a stone pipe, the experience is similar and you will have to try a lot harder to break it. I’ve dropped mine on asphalt, concrete, rug, linoleum, tile, a deck, and into a metal sink. It has a few notches, but I’ve had it for over two years with no problems.

It’s a four inch carved stone pipe. Pocket sized! Smaller is better, the lighter it is the better with stone.

Once a pipe breaks, it’s time to move on. You may miss the old one but you may like the new one more.

Buy a Volcano. You’ll never have to worry about breaking glass again. It’s even safer than using glass.

I have used and really like a volcano but they cost $500—$700 bucks. I want be buying one of those anytime soon.

How much of the stem do you have left? This happened to a friend last year and he filed down the edges and just smoked from the shorter stem. Of course he made sure there were no “shavings” to inhale.

RocketGuy's avatar

You actually inhale?!!

creativejuices's avatar

I used to, before asthma… warning story!!!!!

Ive dropped mine on concrete before and theyre fine lol

You can weld it with propane torch.
