Anyone know some good neck stretches?

Asked by drClaw (4452points) April 13th, 2009

I am training in jujitsu and after a long workout I am noticing my neck is much stiffer than I would like it to be. Does anyone have good neck stretching tips or a resource that can give me pointers.

There is no perfect neck stretch. I would suggest the basic stretches you probably already know and work with them gradually for few days. The neck is very delicate as I am sure you know.

Yes! the links @Judi provided are great.

Take ibuprofen before your workout to start the anti-inflammatory effects in advance. Ice your neck after each workout to reduce swelling. The next day, you can use heat to relax the muscles.

Yoga is really good for all your body’s muscles. Headstands are especially good to strengthen the neck over time, as is your current jujitsu workout.
