Were you a late bloomer?

Asked by Dansedescygnes (2881points) April 14th, 2009

I definitely was/am. My voice is still kind of high/feminine and it didn’t get deeper at all until I was 16. Also I’m quite short and skinny and I don’t shave yet. I can’t even see my Adam’s apple.

But I was just thinking about the fact that this has never bothered me. I know for some people it would’ve been viewed as a bad thing, but not for me really. I’ve always kind of liked it.

So, were you, in what way, and did you dislike it?

Oh yah I didn’t hit puberty until I was 17. I wasn’t bothered by it at all. At least I didn’t have to deal with a huge chest (never did develop that :/), cramps, bloating, etc during all my high school sports seasons. Honestly…if it wasn’t for my mum frequently worrying about me and saying “if you get to 18…we’re calling a doctor” I probably wouldn’t have thought about it at all.

Yes, I had no dates or friends in high school, and an early marriage (I married a boy of 17 one week after we met at a skating rink). After I lost my first husband, I found out I had somehow become popular and sought after

Physically, I got my boobs a little later than some girls, but still “on time” I was in 6th or 7th grade when I actually needed a bra (probably didn’t really need it, but for gym class, and my ego I did) I got my period at 13, pretty average age. Girls probably get it even earlier nowadays :(
Sexually, a lot of kids had been doing “stuff” well before I even kissed a boy. I was 14 when I had my first kiss. But, apparently I felt the need to make up for lost time, and be “mature”
I was an “average” bloomer, you could say. I think it’d be considered a late bloomer nowadays though.

Try about 23yrs old, didn’t hit 100lbs until then and got carded well into my 30’s. Enjoy it!
Oh yeah, work it too because everything anyone’s ever told you about youth is true and you’ve got the smarts to go far with it.

I’m still blooming; I’m still young.

Ugh. I wish. I got my period at 10. Which seems unfairly early to me, but all my female friends got theirs within the next year or so, so I guess I was just on the early end of average.

Oh yes, but I turned out fine.
It never bothered me.

Physically I developed about on time, puberty at 13, boobs shortly thereafter though they took a while to settle down. It took seven year to grow them, and I’m starting to wonder if they feel like going another round. Frankly, I’m fine with my C’s.

I was more of a social late bloomer, not in terms of friends as much as the so called milestones of your teenage years. My first kiss was later in life, I didn’t touch alcohol until I was 18, didn’t even look at a drug until then, I didn’t go to prom, I missed almost every homecoming… I just wasn’t interested. :)

Funny story, I actually went to my last homecoming in tan flip flops, black jeans with holes, and a black shirt with a giant Dr. Frank-N-Furter face on it. I was pretty much the life of the party, everyone else looked like a fucking cupcake and I was rocking out.

@asmonet you were basically the coolest kid in school huh? I think we would have been awesome friends in high school haha.

@asmonet

Yeah, it was pretty much just physical for me, I’ve been drinking since 15 and I’ve been to every dance…lol

Yes, definitely, but it doesn’t matter at all anymore.
