What are your personal experiences with Reiki?

Asked by aviona (3260points) April 16th, 2009

I’m going for my first Reiki session tomorrow and I’m interesting to hear others’ personal experiences. Did you go for a specific ailment (physical or mental)? Did you keep going on a regular basis? If so, how long? And, of course, did you feel that it helped overall?

Thank you in advance!

My mother who is a massage therapist among many other things has been doing it for 25 years.

She’s pretty much sold on it and swears by it.

Her clients are all more than impressed.

Of course, it isn’t traditional medicine, and should not be treated as such but in terms of stress relief and relaxation which can lead to an overall feeling of improvement and wellbeing I think it does it’s job.

Supposedly, I’m “attuned” to second level Reiki. I’ve used it a couple times when people requested it. I don’t really buy into it though. I mean, I don’t know that it has any mystical power beyond the obvious value of just taking a minute to sit back and let someone treat you, pay attention to you. Almost like touch, which is a powerful healing force, but not as woo-woo as it’s made out to be.

[Mod says:] Removed the off-topic chatter as well as the problem that was derailing the Q. I completely understand how spam can cause a Q to go so far off course, but please try to get back to Reiki now.

I’ve never been affected by a reiki session in any way. I’ve been worked on by 2 different reiki masters and felt no improvement.

But- if you have something to be worked on, I would check out Cranio-sacral therapy. In combination with a massage session that I had I was temporarily cured of chronic back pain in one day. While it might not work for everyone, it’s worth a shot.

well, i tried it once, very very basic application. I visualized a ball of heat between the palms of my hand. Like a sphere. I could feel the heat, for real.
