What do you know about Stanford University?

Asked by Dansedescygnes (2881points) May 1st, 2009

I’m just wondering if any of you have had any personal experience with it. Did you go there? Do you know someone who went there? What have you heard about it?

(Keep in mind I’ve asked these questions to people in real life and received answers, especially from my parents. But I figure gathering as much info as possible couldn’t hurt).

Yes, I finally decided after a month of agony and stress that I am going to Stanford!

GO STANFORD CLASS OF 2013!!!!

I know Chuck Bartowski went there.
He got kicked out.

But it looks like things worked out for the best.

It was featured in Orange County with Jack Black.

I attend. It’s great. I’ve been to three schools—Shepherd University in WV, University of Virginia, and now Stanford. I honestly feel the students aren’t markedly smarter compared to any other university, but students here are breathtakingly creative and innovative and absolutely convinced that they can change the world (and many do).

If you come, you’ll find yourself pulled into a strong entrepreneurial culture. You’ll probably half-found about a million start-up companies, because that’s just what people do here.

That said, I should offer a small disclaimer. I’m a graduate student here, so perhaps I’m not speaking to an undergraduate experience.

Hope this helps!

I helped my husband with his business for years. It was across the street from Stanford. My daughter works in the athletic department at Stanford and I love shopping at the Stanford Shopping Center. We have known many people who have attended the school and many of our patients are Stanford students. Both Chelsea Clinton and Tiger Woods were students there recently. My husband attended both Cal and Stanford. He favored the atmosphere at Cal because it is a public school and efforts are made to represent THE PEOPLE. Stanford is my kind of school because it feels safer, and less crowded. Academically it is geared towards brilliant minds so it can be rigorous and challenging.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I could not be any more excited for this…seriously… :)

That’s what I like to hear. That is part of the reason I chose to go there over UCLA. The group of kids from my school going to Stanford (and there are about 7 of us) is very intelligent and it’s just a great group. How could I say no to that?
