Is there a way to change the key in Windows to come back from Hibernate mode?

Asked by steveprutz (180points) May 11th, 2009

My Dell system forces me to press the POWER BUTTON to awaken my PC from hibernation. I would prefer to use my keyboard, because the power button is difficult to press down (hard to describe).

Am I stuck with it? Or maybe is this a BIOS setting? I’m running XP.

That’s kind of what ‘hibernate’ is. Maybe you want ‘suspend’ or ‘sleep.’

In hibernate, your computer essentially shuts down, but saves what was going on on the desktop. Since the computer is off, you need to use the power button.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Power Options > Click the “Advanced” tab.
The power button option is on the lower half of the window.

You can change what the power button will do when the system is switched on as @The_Compassionate_Heretic says, however you can’t change which button wakes the computer up from hibernation because the computer is completely powered down. The only difference between hibernate and shutdown is hibernate saves the state of windows to hard disk before shutting down.
