What set of ideas has (negatively) affected humanity the most?

Lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.

The worst? Absence of love and empathy.

1. Religions that say my god is the only true god and I think they all say that.

2. Males are stronger and smarter and should be in charge.

Racism/Nationalism.

Supremacy. In general. About anything. I’m not talking about holding true to your beliefs or whatnot-
But if we could all just get over ourselves, I’m pretty certain the world would be a better place.

War. It’s the worst idea humanity has ever come up with.

Ok a broader level, I think the concept of property and possession is self defeating.

Organized religion, government, slavery, and super models.

Everything was cool before the agricultural revolution. It went downhill from there.

The fear of change.

It’s not the ideologies themselves that are the problem, it’s us humans implementing them that cause problems.

And I don’t think racism is an “idea” it’s a symptom of prejudice ideals and thought.

Notions of entitlement are biologically instinctive, yet aren’t in all cases negative. It’s a double-edged sword, but because it is instinctive, it affects everyone negatively to some degree.

The concept that there is a deity and that s/he has appointed people to be earthly representatives. All Churches have a long history of corruption, greed, despotism. There is nothing wrong with the teachings of Christ, there is everything wrong with those who claim to control how we regard those teachings. Throughout history the Church has attracted ambitious men, not pious men.

Let me add Patriarchy to the mix. But I agree, Supremacy is probably the top notch.

The realization that we exist as a whole really has done more damage than good. We fight, we bicker, we pollute, and we deliberately look for things to argue about, if we were just like all the other animals on earth (unaware) the world and we would be better off.

Materialism, totalitarianism, ignorance, greed, lack of empathy.

The worst idea ever? Lying. (however useful)

None. Its all instinctive.
