What is the size comparison of the iPhone 3G[s] to the iPhone 3G and original iPhone?

Asked by fortris (683points) June 8th, 2009

I have an element liquid case that is quite expensive, and it fits both original iPhone and iPhone 3G. Is the iPhone 3G[s] somewhere in between these sizes?

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe they said that the 3GS is the same size as the 3G.

@eambos It is. I believe the 3G is a bit thicker than the original iPhone.

@eambos It looked like a combo of them. The dimensions of the original iPhone with the style of the iPhone 3G.

The new ad for the 3GS says “It looks the same.” I am pretty sure they just changed the insides.

edit :: changed from the 3G one.

omg! it’s 2 grams heavier, that is one heavy compass right there..

fortris's avatar

Wait, is the only real difference between them the compass?

jrpowell's avatar

Compass and a better camera that does video. And it has a much faster processor and video abilities. And a better battery.

I would start to expect apps that only run on it.

@johnpowell OHHHH! We don’t get video on the normal 3G? I HATE APPLE SO MUCH. And I hope we get exclusive apps too, now that I have to drop another $200 on a new phone. Lets see the total money apple is getting out of me:

Original iPhone: $250 (long story, my dad bought it for $300 then the price dropped)
Sold iPhone: $100
iPhone 3G: $200
Selling iPhone 3G: $100 (another long story, don’t ask how I’m getting full price)
iPhone 3G[S]: $200
Total spent: $650
Total deducted: $200
Total cost: $450

I just bought my iPhone last Tuesday so I think because it’s within 30 days I can upgrade for free :)

@ fortris The price for the 3Gs will be lower. 8g $99.00, 16g $199.00, and 32 will be $299.00. $99.00 for 8 g is a sweet deal.

fortris's avatar

@ladytmerie Yeah no, it’s $599 for a 16 3GS and $699 for a 32 3GS to upgrade from a normal 3G.

ladytmerie's avatar

@ fortis yeah I realized later that the lower prices are for the 3g only. The 3gs is far beyond what I want to pay :(

@ladytmerie I found a workaround, check this question I asked.
