Neon glasses aren’t popular.

As for the scarves, I see a lot of that where I live except they aren’t houndstooth scarves. It is a kaffiyeh.
Hipsters love to identify with the Palestinians.

..i wasn’t aware those were popular.

I’m with @Clair. Apparently I’m not hip to the latest trends.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic: I was trying to find an image of the kaffiyeh, good score! Echo… echo… echo. Neon glasses are, oh I don’t know. heh.

@hungryhungryhortence The kaffiyeh and neon sunglasses look is definitely relevant to essieness’ embarrassing fashion question.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic : ! wow. so people took a anti war statement and turned it into a “fashion” trend… & I caught that too!! I guess I need to look at recent questions before I post. But I wanted to ask this all day!!

@creativejuices It was a good question. I gave you lurve. I saw that on the way into work today.

@hungryhungryhortence As for the neon glasses, fashion cycles every 20–25 years. So yes, unfortunately the 80’s are back.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic: I know. My own sister showed up here in Jan. with a kaffiyeh, White Ray Bans and high waisted skinny jeans

@hungryhungryhortence It may be time for an fashion intervention

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Yeah, I blame the 80’s revival. I like a lot of it, but the neon glasses are just redonculous. I see lots of people wearing them around here (Denver) but they’re always people who just generally look like they’re trying too hard.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@Likeradar You won’t like it when you start seeing parachute pants.

Likeradar's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Lol, so true! But some magazines have been pushing them… I really hope it doesn’t catch on. :) I’m all for off the shoulder shirts, the occasional bit of neon, and leg warmers on the rare people who can pull them off.

@Likeradar May the Flashdance look never again rear its ugly head.
You know you’ll see parachute pants again. It’s going to be on some kid who worships Pete Wentz.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

Okay. If parachute pants come back, especially the metallic polyester/rayon ones then I’m going to cut my ass length hair into a buzz with a rat tail and spiked side rails.

This question is starting to feel more and more like a John Hughes film.

We just went on a class trip and EVERYONE got those glasses!

i’ve seen the increase in popularity in both of those things – mostly in the teen, myspace crowd – and i guess it’s because of the same reason anything gets popular. a few people start it, they’re in magazines (or on catwalks), and the trend weeds down into magazines, and finally stores like forever 21 where they’re sold to a lot of people who will buy it regardless of whether they actually like it or not.

Noel_S_Leitmotiv's avatar

Yeah on the catwalk, on the catwalk, i do my little turn on the catwalk….

Cause for some trendiness is more important than good taste.

A couple people do it to get attention, and it trickles down into the mainstream.
