The problem is not with your connection it is with apples servers.

In case you didn’t know Apple released the iphone 3.0 software update today so everybody with an iphone is downloading it from apple. When the update is applied to the iphone the iphone is reset and then needs to be activated again by contacting itunes store. Add on to this all the people with ipod touchs that are using the store today to download the update aswell and the amount of traffic itunes store is getting os more than the servers can handle. On Friday when the 3GS is released there will be a whole load more people activating iphones as well so its probably going to get worse before it gets better.

So it’s better not to download 3.0 till next week?

I downloaded it no problem. However it took about 2–3 hours to activate the phone after it was installed. You might be lucky but until the iphone is reactivated it is a brick.

Wow. THAT EXPLAINS ALOT. So how long do you think it will take for the traffic to end?

It’ll be back to normal next week. It’ll peak tonight when people get off of work and then again on Friday when the 3G S comes out, then next week it’ll be back to normal.

I have had a similar problem and I had to resync with iTunes first then my updates would download. either from iTunes or over wifi.

I just updated my firstgen touch to 3.0 and had no trouble at all.
