you might find answers to this in your reference booklet, or via the apple tech support website.

keep in mind that what they advertise is rarely “accurate” in the truest sense. Laptops are tested with WiFi off, no music playing and with 20% screen brighness. Not how we typically run our laptops.

my old powerbook (before the battery died) got maybe 2.5hrs out of the battery, with normal usage. my new macbook pro, which is advertised at 7, gets 3–3.5 with normal usage (though i do have it autodim the screen a bit when unplugged).

With a new battery, I got between 2 and 3 hours on my Powerbook depending on what I was doing with it. I can get 3 to 4 with my MacBook Pro.

You may also want to take into the account the health of the battery, this can be measured with Coconut Battery.

I have a Powerbook G4, and the battery lasted about 3 hours when it was new. It died completely on me after 3.5 years of constant everyday use.

That said, the new 17” batteries (which I think they ported over to the 15” now, really do last a long time. I’ve gotten an easy 5 hours from mine.
