Should flutherites form a group on google or yahoo?

Asked by prasad (3859points) July 3rd, 2009

I have noticed that asking for help here on fluther requires sometimes to upload or send files via internet. Wouldn’t it help if we make a group that might serve this purpose?
Or should fluther provide some place to keep some files on internet?

I’m a flutherite only in so far as I use Fluther. I don’t take that with me elsewhere.
You can link to other resources from this site however.
You can hyperlink to youtube or photobucket or just about anywhere.

I was thinking more along the lines of Skype. It has audio and video. I use Skype a lot, a Fluther Skype group could be a good thing. At least I look exactly like my Avatar – I wonder how others look. You can always use Skype audio or text only if you don’t want anyone to know – that will protect the socks.

Personally, I think that the people who will be sending files via internet to the people on fluther who need those flies already have ways to get those files to others. Like what the Compassionate Heretic said. And i’ve seen a lot of “Just PM me your email” things that seem to work fine.

So I wouldn’t really mind a group like that, I just don’t think I’d use it. I already have ways of getting files around the internet…

OK I understand you can upload photos/pictures on photobucket or alike, and link to videos on youtube (youtube here is blocked though), but how would you go on if you want to upload file like say excel or word file from your desktop?
Rapidshare (or www.4shared.com) can be used. What do you think can be done?

Well, I understand what you mean, but for most .xls or document type files I use either Dropbox or Box.net. I also will use Papaya to send something with a password that I don’t necessarily want all people who see the link using. I’ll also use Quicksnapper for screenshots. So I can see the use for it, but I don’t really have an issue with sharing files, etc.

Out of curiosity, where are you that YouTube is blocked?

@dverhey Thanks for the awesome links; I didn’t know so many.
I’m here in a company (Pune, India); youtube and many other sites (facebook, orkut, etc.) are blocked. Also, email sites such as gmail, yahoomail, hotmail, rediffmail, etc. can be accessed from 1 to 3 in the afternoon, and after office time is over ,i.e. after 6.30 in the evening.
