yes, johnpowell gives the best advice. firefox has a built-in popup blocker that works beautifully. 99.99% if not 100% of ads are blocked.

And you can install AdBlock Plus and get rid or pretty much every ad. And Flashblock is great too. It makes it so you need to click on a Flash movie for it to play. Fantastic for annoying banner ads that make sound.

I can’t really use the Internet without those extensions now.

buy a mac and forget all of this “bloatware” you are currently worrying about.

I use firefox as my popup blocker. Firefox have great addons to do almost anything. It is fast and handy.
So far I did not have any issues with popups because of firefox.
