What is the Fluther etiquette that has evolved from the users?

Asked by lloydbird (8740points) July 9th, 2009

How should one behave on here? Why do you add people to your Fluther? Should you thank someone who has added you or not? Do you expect to be thanked for adding? What other behaviours would you like to see here? What behaviours do you think should stop? Lurve numbers, are they good on display?etc…....

Some of the institutionalized ones at http://www.fluther.com/faq#guidelines.

Also there’s a tradition of telling founders whose name starts with ‘a’ how great they are.

I can only speak for myself but I behave here just as I behave anywhere, be it online or IRL.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@andrewYou’re a frisky one today, aren’t you?

CMaz's avatar

So let me get this straight. Always good to kiss the founders booty? Now just you or Ben also?

fireinthepriory's avatar

One cute thing I’ve noticed is that OT or personal conversations are usually made in whisper. :)

Tink's avatar

I behave here like I would somewhere else also

janbb's avatar

@andrew So you think you deserve an “A”, someone else deserves a “B”?

Judi's avatar

@andrew ; Have I told you how great you are lately?

Tink's avatar

Who’s andrew???
j/k

Judi's avatar

@Tink1113 ; andrew is THE MAN

Judi's avatar

maybe it’s da Man

Tink's avatar

What about da dude!!

lloydbird's avatar

@andrew ‘That has evolved from the users’, friend. You are one of two (that I know of ) that is least qualified to answer this Q. No offence!

~ stands for sarcasm or jest.

And always worship the Fluthergods known in human form as Andrew and Ben. ;)

whisper when off-topic
• snark after real answers
• give lurve for good answers
• give lurve for good questions
• no text-speak
try to use proper grammar
• no personal attacks
• pancakes are more than pancakes

All hail Bendrew. You may be able to find them under the pool. Or in the frizzer. Or currently, in France.

Tink's avatar

Bendrew??? andrew and ben in one???

DeanV's avatar

Yup.

Bendrew=Andrew+Ben

Tink's avatar

So they found Fluther? I really don’t know this stuff

aprilsimnel's avatar

A ~ (tilde) denotes sarcasm.

lloydbird's avatar

@cprevite What are a“Pancakes”?

Judi's avatar

@lloydbird ; are you sure you want to know?

lloydbird's avatar

@Judi Not now! But go on.

bythebay's avatar

Pancakes are the holy grail of Fluther, and denote orgasmic happiness!

janbb's avatar

@Tink1113 They looked under a rock one day and they found….. Fluther!!

But seriously, Ben and Andrew were college friends and CS majors who decided to create a Q&A site where questions were filtered to self-designated “experts” on specific topics. Et voila, Fluther!!

SuperMouse's avatar

@Tink1113 yes, Andrew and Ben are Fluther’s founders. We all hail Ben and Andrew (and be sure to switch top billing when discussing them) on a very regular basis.

Here are some other tidbits you might find interesting:

1. Flutherers grow very quickly weary of moderation complaints. If you find you are being modded often re-read the Fluther Guidelines, or speak to the mods. They are just users like you and me who agreed to take on this very thankless job.
2. Flutherers are not fans of doing other people’s homework, so please don’t ask.
3. Pancakes are a rare, highly sought after commodity here on Fluther.
4. When you lose something always look first in the frizzer.

Welcome to Fluther and enjoy!

Why is it that I never tire of the fluther etiquette question? It always elicits responses that make me laugh!

Tink's avatar

@janbb @SuperMouse
“je t’en remercie infiniment!”

janbb's avatar

De rien, little birdy friend.

lloydbird's avatar

Pancakes – none the wiser!!

janbb's avatar

@lloydbird Ah – the answer to that is more mysterious. In a question from long ago, pancakes were equated with orgasm and have thus been held in high regard by many an ancient Flutherer.

Tink's avatar

<———Never eating pancakes again!!!!

janbb's avatar

Ah, that’s what you say now!

Judi's avatar

Here’s the pancake question.

lloydbird's avatar

@janbb I begin to see the ‘equation’. (Blush)

lloydbird's avatar

@Judi AH HA!! Now I see ‘In’.

maryleedy's avatar

At the risk of sounding like a newbie here, is Fluther said like the word “flew ther” or “fluff er”?

Tink's avatar

Flu th er

SuperMouse's avatar

@maryleedy it rhymes with “mother”

Tink's avatar

And butter : )

maryleedy's avatar

oh! thank goodness I only said it wrong to one person on the phone! Whew! TY!

cookieman's avatar

@maryleedy: You were talking to someone…on the phoneABOUT FLUTHER?!??

Good lord woman! Have you gone mad?!?

~ oh, look…a tilde

@bythebay: Thanks for running with the pancake question. I actually had to take a break from Fluther to eat with the family.

@SuperMouse: I too never tire of these. It’s like welcoming someone to the treehouse.

Tink's avatar

@cvprevite lol
@maryleedy Is someone gonna come after us?

cookieman's avatar

@Tink1113: That would be the CIA.

Tink's avatar

@cvprevite – Damn, again???

maryleedy's avatar

LOL no no, it was my business partner I was talking to on the phone. I was so excited to find Fluther (from an unexpected source) a place for me to be able to express my thoughts and opinions. She called me just after I signed up here. Is that alright?? If that’s against protocol, tell me and I won’t tell the third person I had in mind.

umm, yeah, I told another friend of mine on the phone too, what was I supposed to tell them when they asked what I was doing? And yes, I pronounced it like “smoooother”

cookieman's avatar

@maryleedy: No, no…I kid. I kid (note the ~).

Welcome to Fluther!

Tink's avatar

@maryleedy
Oh I’m sorry I forgot to say Welcome!!

janbb's avatar

@maryleedy You can talk about us to the Culinary Institute of America any time you want. (Oh, not that CIA?)

Welcome to Fluther!

cookieman's avatar

did someone say culinary?

Judi's avatar

Did someone say CIA ?

janbb's avatar

@Judi Too funny. I never saw that one.
