Should I buy a Nikon D90 or D5000?

Asked by bseligmann (4points) July 28th, 2009

Looking for the best low end DSLR from Nikon. Cost isn’t very important. I already have a D60 and want something a little better.

I like the D5000. I’m setting money aside for it now. I don’t like using credit.

I think you’ll enjoy the upgrade from the D60 to the D90. I love my D90 :)

D90 or D300, those are on my list for an upgrade from my D70. I just can’t justify it though because my D70 just keeps shooting along. I want the d300, but would like the D90 because of the SD card support. All my laptops have SD readers built in. I know that is just lazy, but it is a factor.

I like my D90. It’s a great camera and for a little bit more money you get a professional feeling camera, (I’ve heard the D5000 is more plastic and doesn’t feel as durable). Though the D5000 is a great camera too, the only thing that is “better” about it is that the back LCD swivels, which would be nice when your shooting video. Other than that the D90 is a powerhouse for pictures and I would recommend it to anyone.

If you already have a D60, getting a D5000 would only add the D-movie option to it, in principle.
I’d say get a D90, it gives you more control because of the less-menus / more-buttons.
I have a D60, and am saving up for a D90 (body).
When I saw the D5000 I was like “aww, noh. now everyone is going to upload random HD videos now :P”

If cost isn’t an issue, grab the d300. In my opinion, it’s almost the same as the D90 except for the video capabilities, but then again, with this grade of camera, only the one behind the camera and the lens you are using will male a difference. I have a D200 and my choice would be the D300… But as for now, I don’t feel the need to change
