Best way to get Comcast promotions?

Asked by UTChris (69points) July 29th, 2009

I recently helped a friend, who is a long-time subscriber to Comcast basic cable, upgrade to digital cable and internet service. I was told by one CSR (after pulling up friend’s account) that I could get digital starter service for $29.95 and internet for $19.95 for 6 months. After I discussed this with my friend we called back and was told by another CSR they couldn’t offer that promo because we weren’t going up a tier in service, the account would be flagged, and after review we wouldn’t get the promo anyway. Can accounts get flagged if a CSR does a specific promo? How does Comcast customer service work, or more specifically, how do you get the best deals?

A CSR, even if they quote you a specific promo, will likely not be able to issue you one if you are not eligible. Their internal order system prevents things like this. It is more likely that the CSR was in error.

The best way to get a good deal from Comcast, is to call AT&T and ask them for their best offer.
Take that offer back to Comcast and I can almost guarantee you, they’ll have a competitive package for you.

This option may take a little upfront investment:

1) Sign up for their service, pay the price quoted to you.
2) Sometime afterward (maybe near when your contract is about to expire), call customer service and ask to cancel your service. They have people whose jobs are to make sure you don’t cancel your service. You can usually negotiate a good deal with them now to keep your service.
3) Repeat every year.
