What would be a good activity for a Art Club to do?

Asked by IBERnineD (7324points) July 30th, 2009

I am the president of the art club at my college and I was trying to think of something we could do. In the past years we did an Art Symposium, where the essays would be published, but the school took away our funding for publishing so no one has interests in that. I was thinking of a mural but that requires a lot of planning, sometimes a year ahead. So any suggestions would be awesome!

A field trip to a museum seems the obvious choice to me.

Organize your group to sketch people’s portraits in caricature style at an upcoming fall community event. All proceeds would benefit a charity you select.

How about a “Paint Out” for charity?

All the artists gather in a public venue to create art and donate a percentage of the sales to a charity.

It would be easy to set up and would be of interest to the local papers ( writing a press release is easy) also if you partner with a worthy charity they may send out some PR as well.

Juried art show, possibly with artwork for sale.

some sort of project in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity (paint a mural in a demo house, maybe?) or any other charity group.

Art shows are always fun, and there are tons of criteria which you can build one around.

One that popped into my mind, because I am a lover of rainbows, is a color themed exhibit – each member selects a color and makes an art piece using predominantly that color (as the organizer, you can balance the color distribution or skew it in a certain direction, such as your college’s colors). To boot, you can sell the art pieces to raise funds for future Art Club projects!

Take kids who might not otherwise get to go to a nearby arts museum to one!

These are all great ideas so far! Thanks I can’t wait to share them with the group!

How does the city feel about finding a public park and donating some gorgeous artsy benches? You could probably pick some up pretty cheap from thrift stores… or maybe the city will provide them!
