Do you have a good idea for a next-generation computer application?

I’m talking something new and innovative. Something that will enhance and change our lives. Something efficient and that everyone can use. Something that could possibly make you a millionaire! It doesn’t necessarily have to be something you’d use just at your personal computer, it could be used elsewhere in the world (on an airplane, at the mall, in a boat, etc…)

One of my ideas is a grocery store application:

First you upload your grocery list to the on-line app. Which then analyzes it and tells you which stores have the best sales and prints out coupons based on your items.

Then you go to the grocery store and get a cart. On the shopping carts computer screen, you log-in and it presents you with your grocery list and which aisles you need to go to.

When you visit an aisle, the screen pops-up which items you need to pick up there. Each item you pick up will automatically be scanned when placed in the shopping cart (just like they are when purchased at check-out). The screen will keep a running total of the cost.

After you have completed shopping, you go to the exit line and swipe your credit card and everything is paid for.

Any items you didn’t pick up on your list will remain there and extra items will be displayed. Your on-line grocery shopping account will keep a ton of statistics based on what stores you shop at, what you purchased and how much you spend.

A lot of that functionality can be done with iPhone applications now. I use one for my grocery list. It just won’t automatically know what you put in the cart, though that is what a lot of people think RFID chips in everything will enable us to eventually do.

An application which will connect your brain to the internet. It will give you full access to all the information from the internet directly into your brain without actually storing it in your brain .This will allow you to see any information anywhere, anytime(when you put a question like ’‘When did Einstein die?’’,the answer will appear in your brain but this doesn’t necessary mean that you will actually understand the information given). This cool thing revolutionaise the world.

^ People would just be looking at porn in their brains all day.

When stuff becomes more intergrated with everything else, either through RFID, the cloud etc, then intresting ideas can happen. To be next gen software, you need next gen hardware.

Would I tell you? ;)
Well it’s very easy, go through your daily routine, extract a random handling/task and brainstorm about how to make that task easier and more fun! Don’t limit yourself to what is possible (the hardest part for most) and wildly throw out all the idea’s you can think of. Make a superhero around the task and give him special abilities, look for a counter-hero to that task and review it’s abilities and so on..

By now you will most likely have a top 3 of most ideal solutions. Now carefully write out how the solution (in this case a software solution) would have to work.

You’ll get pretty far.

Also a fun thing. Consider technology available (and being developed) today.. write down all their posibilities and the new needs they create.. connect the dots!

Eg: available is GPS, posibility is tracking your location. Available is social networks, need is knowing where your friends are (faster). Connect the dots and we can view our buddies on a graphic map. Maybe ask people to go to a specific location to have a drink.

These brainstorm sessions work best in a group, within a free environment over a few good laughs. Alcohol does not help, glue does but it’s unhealthy.. don’t do that. ;)

Three-dimensional virtual sex using head-mounted displays, wired gloves, and glove-like devices to be attached to the male and female sex organs. I’m amazed how much people are willing to spend on sex dolls. A computer application would make the whole “experience” even more real while androids are still too complex and too expensive.

I prefer a real woman myself, but I imagine the market for such new virtual sex applications is huge. Creating the programs and the hardware would make you a billionaire.
