Total lurve for specific Questions/Answers and login?

Asked by limeaide (1921points) August 5th, 2009

I really like to see as much information as I can. I’d love to see the total lurve a specific question or answer I wrote received. This would be in addition to the already awesome lurve counter. This would help me understand what makes better questions and answers. Anyone else think this is a good idea? How can we make this happen?

I’m confused about the difference between what you’re suggesting and the number next to the GA box is… Can you clarify?

When you click on “My Account” and the “Public View” and scroll down past all the people in your fluther, you can find your questions and answer and the numbers you are looking for.

@YARNLADY that is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! BTW – what about a leader board for all flutherites. Who has the highest lurve value question/answer?

chyna's avatar

Lurve is not a contest. It is given for great questions and great answers, so I doubt you will see a leader board with those kinds of tallies.

@limeaide The answers to that last question can be found here and aren’t likely to change for awhile.

I know there is such a chart that can determine the percentage of lurve you receive for both questions asked, and answers given and some other variables.

I know I’ve seen such a thing, just not sure where. It was on some other question and a link was provided.

No leader board. This isn’t a competition.

For the sake of simplicity, let’s just say I have the most lurve.

@Sarcasm I sooo don’t want to give you a great answer for that comment.

What the hell. Why not! ;)

@chyna @The_Compassionate_Heretic I know it’s not a contest necessarily and maybe I need to explain a little bit more of what I was thinking. 1. I do think that the appeal of the lurve is that it is somewhat a contest whether with yourself or others. 2. I think by seeing what people deem as the best types of questions/answers we might improve on how we ask questions and give answers.

Who says it’s not a contest? I was led to believe that the person who dies with the most lurve wins.

YARNLADY's avatar

@AstroChuck and we all know if you saw it on the internet, it has to be true

A leaderboard is not really desirable in my mind because as others have said, this site is not a contest, and quality does not correspond to lurve (quite often funny answers get tons of lurve). And if it is a contest than some of us have you beat fair and square and by a mile and a half, I would imagine that statement could really discourage some people from contributing here and that’s certainly not the purpose of lurve.

Just wait, young grasshopper. You will learn what makes a good question and answer by observation and experimentation in good time.

I have seen more than one social website or community destroyed by the introduction of score-keeping systems. One of the things that keeps fluther strong is that they do not facilitate such comparisons. Comparisons like that can easily make a lot of people feel bad, and quit the site. It facilitates the formation of cliques and drives wedges between people based on their perception of the lack of fairness in the community. I’m pretty sure I would leave if that happened on fluther. Of course, given the competitive nature of the site if such a thing happened, no one would care.
