Would you take part in an experiment like "The Colony"?

Asked by Sarcasm (16793points) August 6th, 2009

The Colony is a reality TV show on Discovery. 10 people (varied backgrounds and expertise) have to survive in post-disaster Los Angeles, collecting resources and creating electricity, clean water, etc. to last for 10 weeks.

Would you be interested in taking part in this experiment? Honing your survival skills and learning how to deal with people who are completely different from you?

I would take part to the extent that I watched the outcome on HDTV while eating Ben ‘n’ Jerry’s and some salty snacks.

Yes. Sounds challenging.

Absolutely. We may not be so far away from actually needing to utilize such skills.

Only if I could rake my McGyver hubby with me.

Of course
Just in case the real thing happens (with zombies), I’d be prepared

I thought I already reside in post-disaster L.A….guess I’ll cancel that last order for supplies and ammunition. See ya….Gary aka wtf

Hell yes! (Assuming this simulation does not include a plague or fallout. I don’t think I’m cut out for that.)

No…I tend to whine and complain in such situations. I’ll watch it on tv though :)

I’m with @Facade

I’ll deal with it if the time comes. Why would I purposely do that to myself? My wife will take care of me. She can do anything.

I’d say the same thing about my Pookie :)

Yes. My friends and I are a little into the Zombie survivalist interests.
Sometimes, I think of the apocalypse to test what I’m really made of.

If I were healthy and young, I’d do it in a heartbeat. What’s 10 weeks out of a lifetime? These days… not on a bet.

i am not gonna try it, cos it’s suicide for me .

I wouldn’t take part in it, not because I don’t want to be in that situation though I can’t say I would like that, but because of the nature of the show itself and how absurd I see it as.
The point of a reality show emulating an alternate reality strikes me as useless. I caught the end of an episode this past week, where the colonists were being raided by an outside group trying to steal their food. I know that, in a real situation, if someone was stealing my precious food, I would most likely hit them with the nearest hard, blunt object. If I am on a TV show, and I know that there are cameras watching me, I would not do that, because it was obviously set up by the people running the show, and the raiders are probably supposed to get away.
Sorry for the rant, but I really see the show as a waste of time, and probably should just take my own advice and never watch it again but where is the fun in that.

This would be a very interesting experience. I have been preparing for this my whole life an would love too be a part of this very important experiment. Thought I would have somethings that could slow me down I have great skills today contribute today the group. I am a man who uses parkour, te Kwon do, jujitsu, engineering, and weapons in his every day life. I love survival and dangerous situations.
