What do you think about laws which require some sort of permit in a locale where said permits are generally not granted?

And, do you think we should even permit private citizens permits to carry handguns (concealed weapons) in public?

D.C. Handgun Lawsuit: Suing For Carry Permits
PALMER V. D.C.
(U.S. Dist. Ct., D.C. Aug. 6, 2009) – Handgun owners sued the District of Columbia yesterday, charging that although D.C. requires “a permit to carry a handgun in public,” it regularly refuses “to issue such permits and refuses” to allow the possession of any handgun that would be carried in public.

I think such a law is a compromise. Someone pushed it through, but the local public safety personnel would rather not deal with more shootings than they already have.

Either that, or it is a handy charge to use for booking gangbangers, just as tax evasion was what was used to bring down Al Capone.

What is the problem? The law requires a permit and just anybody can’t get one. So?

I believe the issue is not that its hard to get a permit but that they dont even give them to anyone thus effectively banning handguns
I think its a pretty crappy way to do things its essentially just trying to get around the second amendment
as to your second question a handgun permit and a concealed weapon permit are 2 different things both of which i believe should be allowed

I just wish there were not so many nuts carrying and using them, legally or illegally.

To me, most of this gun control stuff seems like a load of BS. You can put as many laws in place as you want, making it more and more difficult for people to acquire and own guns, yet MOST people who have bad intentions with their firearms obtain them through black market (illegal) means, meaning they completely bypass gun control procedures altogether.

So, we’re punishing the law-abiding people who have good intentions to use their guns for sport/protection while doing practically nothing to the people who are shooting/killing each other with them. It just makes no sense. What we need is more protection against illegal firearms…now that would get us somewhere with reducing shooting deaths.
