Why do beds creak during sex?

Asked by eadinad (1278points) January 14th, 2008

I can ALWAYS hear my neighbors having sex – either their springs creak rhythmically or the bed is actually banging into the wall. But I’ve never made noise….at least not that way. I’m starting to think I“m actually doing something wrong, since everyone else seems to physically move their bed. The ferocity and speed of the kinds of movement that would make my bed sound like that just seem painful to me. What’s going on here?

Your doing it wrong.

That would have been a great answer, but you spelled “you’re” incorrectly.

Also, some beds and mattresses have measurably better recoil than others.

@kevbo egh stupid grammar heh. I’ll have to reread my stuff better in the future.

Fight fire w. fire. Bang loudly on the wall when next you hear the racket. And I can assure you that there is no right or wrong way to have sex. Whatever works for you (and your partner).

And if you are really nervy, suggest during a calmer moment that they perhaps move the bed a little or pad the wall.

There are a couple factors to consider here…

It depends on the bed set up. If the mattress has metal springs, if the frame is loose, if the headboard has too much flex back and forth… You will get noises. Also the sexual position is a factor as well. Any kind of horizontal thrusting would increase the chances of noise (missionary, from behind aka doggy style). If a couple enjoys the “girl on top” method, there would be less noise.

So in closing… You either have a sturdy bed or enjoy making love, not sex.

I can’t believe I just tried to rationalize this answer.

Its the sound of angels crying during pre-marital sex.

get a girl first and try again..!

vanguardian's avatar

I don’t think that will help “her”

kevbo's avatar

@Spargett, those angels need to learn how to take a good pounding like the rest of us.

he probably has an old bed or a fat girlfriend

They probably have a wooden bed, which over time has become loose. When there is more ‘play’ in the bed, because there is more movement it creates more noise as the joints start to knock in and out of each other (like the occupants really!).

Well, me and my boy experimented last night and we can make it move/creak a little, it just takes a lot of effort and energy. I’m voting that my bed is just sturdier, plus I have no headboard.

But thanks everyone…especially those of you with more creative answers. : )

just turn up the porn in the background. then you wont hear anything. ;-)

They have an old bed or mattress. I don’t think there is anyway that one could be having sex the wrong way….

@eadinad: you told us in a question re; pull-ups that you were small and slim; maybe your neighbors are both supersized. (Who says that it is the girlfriend only who is fat? Ah, yes…weaselope.)

It’s to do with the movement, and also the bed. Even on a relatively creaky bed, you can have sex without the bed making too much noise. I guess your neighbours either want other people to hear or they just don’t care.

As far as i’m concerned, the more noise the better :)
