Have any of you ladies ever been on Femcon fe?

Asked by chelseababyy (7939points) August 18th, 2009

So I went to the gyno today for a follow up from being in the ER Wed night with two cysts and she gave me two months worth of Femcon FE birth control. I’ve never heard of it, and neither have my friends or family so I decided to look it up online. Tons of people are hating on it, and I know that EVERYONES bodies are different and that you always here more negative than positive about things.. But I was just wondering if any of you have taken this pill before.. If so, what were your side effects, are you still on it, etc. Thanks!

I’ve never even heard of that one.
I was put on Ortho after my cysts, to control them and my endo. Why didn’t they just go with that?

I believe TitsMcGhee is on Femcon Fe.

I’m on femcon. I haven’t had any weird side effects. Unless it’s something minor that I shrugged off. What makes people hate it?

@lunabean I’ve seen reviews that people gain weight and have really horrible mood swings. Those are the only two things I’m worried about.

@casheroo I’m not sure. The doctor said these were going for controlling cysts and stuff. She just kind of gave it to me and didn’t ask my opinion. I was going to ask for loestrin or yaz or ortho because a ton of people I know are on those three and all I hear are success stories.

Hmm I haven’t gained weight or had mood swings specifically from being on femcon. I say just try it for a month and see what happens. Keep a journal and track everyday.

Femcon Fe is a new version of Ovcon 35 – the “hook” that allowed the maker to rebrand it is that it’s chewable. Same does and type of estrogen, same dose and type (norethindrone) of progesterone.

All combination OCPs have the same type of estrogen, in amounts varying from 20 to 35 micrograms. There’s several different types of progesterones – norethindrone is also used in Loestrin ½0. Loestrin 1.5/30, and Ortho Novum 1+35 in varying amounts.

Most women do fine with pretty much any OCP, once they get past the first 2–3 months. We get lots of sample packs of the newest pill formulations that the maker is hoping we’ll start women on, and keep them on. Once a pill has a generic version, samples are nearly impossible to obtain. Curently in our sample cupboard, we have Yaz, Femcon Fe, Seasonique Lo, Nuvaring.

My guess is that your doc grabbed what was in her sample cupboard. Nothing wrong with that as far as it goes, but if it ends up working out OK, and your copay at the pharmacy is unmanageable, ask to switch to generic ovcon 35.

@MagsRags Thanks for the brilliant info. I heard that Femcon Fe is pretty spendy.. That’s what I was worried about. I just don’t want it to work out and then have to twitch to something else. I was really hoping for Yaz because I’ve heard SO MANY awesome things about it, and not so many negative.

That’s the only scary thing.. All the negative reviews I’ve read about Femcon Fe :(
