Are there any ways to minimize or prevent your emails being marked as spam by the recipient?

Asked by delta77 (196points) August 21st, 2009

Sometimes I realize people that I sent an email to never got my email, because my email was marked as spam by their email server or client or whatever. How can I prevent this from happening, especially when I’m not even really sending spam or mass emails, but an important email that someone on the receiving end needs to read? It is quite frustrating when that happens. Any advice is much appreciated!

Can’t do anything about it except switch to a different email provider or tell your email recipients to make an exception for your email.

Give them a call and let them know that you sent them an e-mail and that if they didn’t get it, they might want to check their spam folder. I check my spam folder regularly to make sure that there are no names that I recognize in there. Its probably the only way to make sure that people get something important if they have a habit of not responding to things.

Inside of the email put “cialis viagra penis pump make love”. Those always tend to get past my spam filter :(

I always check my spam folder simply because I rarely get spam (and sometimes Gmail is like, Woah, you’ve gotten 10 emails from LOLcats, today, maybe that’s spam!).

If it is a business thing, you might send a follow up letter to ensure that they will check for it and keep it out of the spam folder.

You could also ask for a confirmation of receipt, and those that don’t confirm, make a different email address to send from asking to look for the other email and mark it as “Not Spam”.
