What is the biochemistry involved in the nesting instinct?

Asked by DryaUnda (176points) January 16th, 2008

About five months into a pregnancy the expecting mother has an overwhelming desire to “tidy the nest” (housecleaning, inventory, and so forth). What biochemicals are responsible for this behavior, and what could inhibit it? What genes are involved with the nesting instinct biochemistry?
