What could cause severe abdominal pain?

Asked by notallgood (2points) August 24th, 2009

For two weeks now I am having severe abdominal pain, as soon as it starts it is a very sharp piercing pain on my lower abdominal and lower tailbone area… and lasts anywhere from 30min to 1hr 30min even with going to the bathroom/farting

I went to the Doctor tonight and he said it was gas pain. (for 2 weeks !!!) he said wait a week then come back
I have not changed my diet before or after this started

When I get gas pain (very rarely) it is only located halfway up my tailbone area my lower back and never in the front, also it starts out as a dull ache that turns into a sharp pain…

pic of what I mean

Help!!!

Have you been having regular bowel movements?

Are you male or female?

I’d consider getting a new doctor. If you are female, possibly seeing a gynecologist..since that chart you provided seems like the pain is low. But, I think you might be male…so see a different doctor or ask for a referral to a gastro specialist.

I would consider seeing another doctor, I’ve never heard of someone being told to wait it out with pain that bad for so long.

How old are you?

I think it has to do something about the lower back muscles

@teh_kvlt_liberal: Way to take a random guess. Very helpful.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hehheh, there’s a chili-pepper up your ass.

But, on a serious note: i remember when i had sex for the first time after quite some time of none, i had pretty much pain in that front-area.
Less pain in the back, but a bit nonetheless.
But you talk about severe pain, so i’m not sure if that would’ve been the same.
Good luck with others’ answers.

Have you noticed that anything in particular triggers it? How many times a day does it happen? How good’s your diet in terms of fiber—do you eat oatmeal, lots of veggies and fruit?

By the way, I passed this question along to our resident doctors. :)

each day is mostly different (except it happens every morning, my diet is average, I don’t eat alot of any one type of food

@teh_kvlt_liberal: The information you provided in your more inflammatory comment would have been better, and for the record, we don’t speak to each other like that here. Grow up.

It’s your body telling you to go to the doctor.

Any medicine strong enough to help will require a prescription, so just go.

teh_kvlt_liberal's avatar

Right, I’m sorry I overreacted

PandoraBoxx's avatar

I think you need to go to a different doctor.

What else happens when you get the pain? Can you move, or is movement impossible? Is it crampy pain? Does it go down to your scrotum too?

Are you having any fevers, chills, or sweats? Does it hurt when you pee or have a BM, or have you seen any blood? Do you drink a lot of alcohol? Is there a family history of any problems?

notallgood's avatar

In the morning I can move but very slowly after a wile, it happens at work some times and I force myself to move normaly(really painful) more of a crampy stabie pain, no mainly just below the abbes and (about) 3 inches above the genitals.

no feavers, chills, a little sweat wile happening no other time. no pain wile going to the bathroom, urine is kinda dark red first time I pee that day only the first time(faint – strong smell of blood very s by day). no I’m not a drinker(5 plus years)
family history unknown I was adopted.

I would suggest finding a urologist ASAP.

@notallgood You could have a bladder infection which is causing crampy pain or more likely, you are passing small kidney stones. The movement of the stones through the ureter(s) and into the bladder is causing you pain (and possibly blood, though I’m not sure about your description). There are other more rare causes of abdominal pain that are associated with dark urine, but without more information, it is impossible to know. If these attacks persist, I suggest returning to your doctor and/or seeing a different one. Perhaps a visit to an urgent care clinic during an attack would be useful.
