Is there a specific name for this kind of table?

Asked by Frankie (4032points) August 26th, 2009

I’m thinking of those tables that people put in foyers or up against the back of a couch. They’re usually used for just decorative stuff, like a lamp or a plant or vase…they’re usually not as tall as a kitchen/dining room table and have a thinner width. I’m trying to find a used one on craigslist and haven’t found what I’m looking for when I search for “table,” “decorative table,” and stuff like that, so is there a specific name for them? Or is it just a table?

A library table.

@AstroChuck, aren’t library tables wider than a sofa table?

AstroChuck's avatar

Perhaps, but that’s always what we called the tables at the back of sofas.

She should probably try both on craigslist.

They’re also sometimes called “console tables” – a console table is pretty much any table that’s designed to go up against a wall or the back of a couch, so that should work for what you want.
