Computer mouse not detected after restart. Help!

Asked by prasad (3859points) August 28th, 2009

I have taken out old USB mouse (which was detected after reboot), and plugged in new USB mouse (i ball opti smart usb mwe). When, I restart the computer (Windows XP), it is not detected. But, it does when I plug it out and again plug it in. I have to do this at every reboot.

I tried removing mouse, and after restart it is installed without any notification. It did take me plug-out and plug-out exercise though.

How should I fix this?

Clearly something isn’t working right. One must assume it is the new mouse because the previous mouse worked OK.

You might try the new mouse in several different USB ports. If it fails in all, take it to a friend’s house and try it on their computer. If it fails there, you know it is the mouse.

If it works elsewhere, then you may have a problem with your USB ports and might try a driver upgrade.

Maybe on boot it is assuming it’s the old mouse, and loading the wrong drivers or something. I’d look for a way to uninstall the old mouse, unless it was just a generic mouse, or to install the new mouse, unless it is just a generic mouse. If the new mouse is just a generic mouse, I’d try getting a new one and see if it works or has the same issue.

Oh, thank God…thank computer.
Now, it’s started working, weird though. It is now detected without any problem. Seems like computer has learned to detect it.
