Can I put bread into compost?

Asked by SamSunflower (4points) September 2nd, 2009

I’m starting a compost pile in my house. I know you can put fruit, vegetables in it. But what about bread? Can I put my uneaten bread in there…or will that wreck the compost?

yes, no problem.

It’s OK as far as the compost goes, but it’s in the category of things, like meat and dairy products, that will attract critters to the compost. If you have a closed bin and bury the bread under the topmost layer, there might not be a problem.

@Harp agrees with the answer I no longer need to post, so @Harp gets a GA.
