I know very little about firearms, by choice as well as circumstance. My dad owned rifles and shotguns for hunting and my brothers are rather avid gun enthusiasts, but their ineterests are not mine. However, I think if you want useful opinions, it would probably help if you provided a bit more information on how you want to use your new gun.

@drdoombot That’s not nice. Individuals with anger issues are more likely to point their weapons at someone else.

That’s what scares me about @kibaxcheza‘s desire to own a weapon.

if it was going to go down like that it would have happened already as i already have a few guns. Including a ar-15 with an upgraded lower receiver and an auto sher, a few base line rifles just some common 22’s and a .308.

sorry to disappoint but its just a hobby. If i going to take a weapon to someone else it would either be my fists or my ka-bar. But as it stands, im a little more stable for that, thanks for trying to be funny, it didnt work out too well though.

@MagsRags Im leaving out detail so that random people dont know enough to answer with confidence. Im kinda looking for gun enthusiasts.

probably m92 cause I have got seriously pinched in the hand cocking that heavy old 1911

kibaxcheza's avatar

a friend of mine said he had problems with that with his 1911, is it really that common?

MagsRags's avatar

Do we have a large cadre of gun enthusiasts here on fluther?

avvooooooo's avatar

@MagsRags Doesn’t look like it.

Though I prefer my pump action shot gun to a hand gun. I’ve always thought that the sound of the pump action cycle is quite the incentive to fuck off and you can generally hit the broad side of the barn with a shotgun, even in the dark.

No, people here seem to be more liberal, and possibly not into the whole 2nd amendment scene.

I like my Ar-15 the most, but it could get me into a lot of trouble so its rarely in use, and ive only even gone into “Rambo” mode once. other than that i like my M1 (the .308 remmington). Nothing says your dead like a 308 to the temple from 600 feet away.

I have a few equalizer handies, just some 22 pistols. Theyre fun to shoot. And much more maneuverable than a full stock shotgun…. I tend to be more practical with my guns. If i get a shotty itll be a riotgun,

@avooooo

…want to scare off intruders ?

”...they have an App for that.”

No really, they do. There is at least one App which perfectly mimics that sound. Will the weird wonders of the iPhone App
Store ever cease?

:D

still waiting for the tazer app

Buttonstc's avatar

Believe it or not, there already is one. Just pop it into the search section of the App store.

“you can get anything you want

At the App Store restaurant”

*with apologies to Arlo Guthrie…

I think people like the 1911 because its such a cool looking gun, so historical, and you can do such cool looks with the grips. I’ve got a ww2 holster for it and zebra wood grips. but no way would I want to have to pull it in a hurry, yeow, plus for me it’s too heavy as a hand gun.

kibaxcheza's avatar

heavy means less recoil with the larger rounds though.
But i do think im going to go with the M92. Either way im getting two, one chromed and one black.

Bugabear's avatar

By M92 do you mean a Beretta 92FS? Assuming you do then I would go with The Beretta because I prefer the look and feel of it to the 1911. It also has a higher magazine capacity and lighter recoil than a .45. Also I find its easier to field strip than the 1911. Also I think its more accurate.

And in the army its called the M9 not M92. Otherwise its just a Beretta and if you want to be more specific then 92.

kibaxcheza's avatar

Youll have to excuse my nomenclature. I play airsoft as well so i often use the real names for airsoft guns, and airsoft names from real guns. Its a nasty habit.

Bugabear's avatar

Ah. Thats perfectly understandable. And on second thought most people keep buying the 1911 because they like the look and its a classic like Coke a Cola and the M1 Garand. If your one of those people then get the 1911.

kibaxcheza's avatar

Oh trust me, Im all American; but when it comes to guns i dont care to much for the classics. I see exercising my 2nd amendment rights as good enough to justify buying what ever i want.

But dont get me wrong, I love my M1.

Bugabear's avatar

Yeah. CAll me communist but I happen to prefer a SKS that picked up for cheap at a gun show. The ammo is cheaper than a Garand and it has a higher ammo capacity. And their both 7.62 but one’s 63 while the other one is 39. And if if your feeling thrifty then I hear Tarus makes something called a PT99 which is almost exactly like a Beretta but cheaper and has the safety on the grip instead of the slide.

kibaxcheza's avatar

I tend to go by the “you pay for what you get” code. But thank you for the insight, ill look into it.

coolbeans's avatar

1911 all the way even though the ammo is more expensive than the 9mm the 45 has more stopping power and is a heck of a lot more fun to shoot (in my opinion)
