What does chlorophyll do for homemade deodorant?

Asked by timothykinney (2743points) September 10th, 2009

I found a homemade deodorant recipe here and I was curious what liquid chlorophyll might be intended for.

I’m not concerned that it’s unsafe.

It would turn it green.

It is used as colourant in foods.

Why would we care if our homemade deodorant was green? Also, have you looked at the website? It’s called MyBeautyRecipes.com, and features a pink theme, and a female model with pink flowers. Surely the ingredient serves some other purpose besides green dye in this recipe?

@La_chica_gomela I didn’t say it was the only reason for inclusion. Apparantly it stops the body producing odours according to this

and this

So it would turn it green and stop you smelling.

@Lightlyseared: I see why they would include it now, but I hope you posted those links knowing they were full of crap…

“Full of crap” is not the phrase I would use. “Generally unsupported statements” is more accurate. :)

I believe there is actual science (as in published papers in peer-reviewed journals) citing the health benefits of chlorophyll when ingested. However, as for topical use, I’m not sure.

I suppose a natural-remedy would have included it for odor-control if the people who made the recipe believed that chlorophyll does this.

Chlorophyll is a natural deodorizer. It also comes in pill form.
