What do you think of Curt Cobain being shown singing Bon Jovi on the new Guitar Hero game?

Asked by The_Compassionate_Heretic (14634points) September 12th, 2009

I don’t often agree with Courtney Love, but I think she’s right to be upset about Curt’s image being exploited for profit.
Although that last part is ironic because Love has been exploiting Curt’s legacy for years.

Here is an example

However, I’m digressing… Curt would never sing Bon Jovi.
He despised glam rock.

On the one hand, it seems disrespectful of his legacy. Especially considering his feelings about hair bands and all.

On the other hand, now that I’m over grunge and teen angst, it all seems very silly to me. We don’t know what kind of musician Kurt Cobain would have turned into. Just look at the grunge scene: only two bands that I know of kept it going way past its sell-by date, those being Pearl Jam and Bush (and the latter changed their sound away from grunge later on). Kurt might have loved this portrayal of himself (as a joke, of course).

Would Kurt Cobain have liked it to join in such a commercial venture in the first place, i wonder.
To answer your question: i don’t think he would’ve liked it.

Bon Jovi belong to the hair metal, not glam rock.

as for the actual appearance of KC in the game, artists have no say over what the public does to them. none whatsoever. not before they die and not after they die.

They might as well just piss on his grave and get it over with.

@Ria777: I thought more of a difference in the way the music sounds. (I haven’t ever listened to hair metal, though. I do like glam rock.)

I think that’s kinda creepy.

I don’t own a console so I don’t play Guitar hero, but judging by the looks of the video this situation occurs when a player uses Kurt’s image as his avatar right? If so it’s not like the creators are trying to make him look ridiculous on purpose, it’s just a possible scenario.

I kind of have to agree with @The_Compassionate_Heretic and @rebbel, if he was alive this wouldn’t have happened. He didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would co-operate with such a commercial game, that’s all Courtney’s doing. She probably didn’t mind signing the contract when she saw the sales figures, but didn’t think about the possibilities. And of course there is more money and fame to be made when she takes this to court.

Ps. What has four legs/arms and works at mcDonalds?

I’ll have to take a look at that so I can have a taste of disgust.

I think Kurt enjoyed real Glam Rock, which was by people like David Bowie and T. Rex. He didn’t like hair metal, FWIU. Part of the underlying reason he gave for killing himself was the self-loathing he was feeling inside about becoming a part of the machine. There’s no way in hell he’d’ve gone for this.
