What to buy a friend for their Bridal Shower?

Asked by sjmc1989 (5499points) September 13th, 2009

Ok. I am a bridesmaid for a friend’s wedding and the bridal shower is in 4 hrs. I am not very close to this friend but I am a bridesmaid anyway (long story). She is 21, has a 5 year old boy, has been living with this guy since she was like 17, and she is a little country. So what would be a good gift to get her. I am no good at this stuff so any help and I Lurve you forever! <——-(Yes thats a bribe desperate times call for desperate measures)

If she has a registry I would suggest buying something off that.

gift certificates!

Gift certificates to somewhere she is registered will be appreciated. That way if she gets a few she can buy a bigger item. Or just get a Visa Gift Card or American Express and she can use it anywhere.

Fire extinguisher.

Or gift certificate.

Certificate for mani/pedi or massage. You can always get something from the registry for the actual wedding gift.

@ubersiren That is a good idea! Who wouldn’t want a mani/pedi or massage a couple days before a wedding! That’s what I would go with. Except it’s Sunday and probably can’t get one. :(

I agree with @knitfroggy – gift certificates to the store where she is registered for gifts, or, if she hasn’t registered, then from her favorite store. Drop by the store on the way to the shower and get a gift card in whatever amount you can afford.

When I got married we got gift certificates (there weren’t any gift cards yet) to Dillards, a nice, upscale department store. We were able to put enough together to get some nice furniture we needed.

A gift certificate for child care maybe? Add a resteraunt gift certificate and movie tickets.

Thank you for all of your responses! Lurve for all! I found out where she was registered at and got her a gift card from there and a beautiful wedding picture frame that was on the list as well. She seemed pleased. Thanks again.

Glad to hear she was pleased.

I bet she’s going to buy herself a thong… :)

@cyndihugs Probably so she got a victoria’s secret gift card so I’m sure that purchase is in her near future. Good call!

Ooooh Victoria’s Secret. Nice! (:

I always buy the book “Don’t shoot the dog” by Karen Pryor. It’s a book about teaching and training. I tell the bride to be that it’s a “how to train your husband” book. It is a lay persons guide to shaping behavior. It’s one of the best books out there on the topic. If you are going to have a husband and kids…it’s a must have book!
