Does anyone know of a (more for fun than productivity) free 3D desktop world thing?

Looking at some programs such as 3DNA and RealDesktop. Are there any programs that are as good as these, but completely free and not trial software?

I second Second Life.

My wife runs a virtual fashion consultancy there and has amassed quite a lot of virtual money that actually translates into a not-insignificant sum of real money.
