Do women ever have clefts in their chins?

Asked by ava (985points) September 20th, 2009

I was contemplating whether a having a cleft in their chin would make me sexier or if it was neither here nor there when I started thinking the same for women, and I couldn’t think of one woman who had this characteristic. Can women have a cleft chin? Are there any female celebs who have one?

It didn’t do a lot for Kirk Douglas in my opinion, can’t see how it would look good on a woman. A shaved head, well yeah, that would work. Bald women are sexy!

@lefteh ick! what a waste of skin.

I know women can, because I have had several female friends with them.

I think that you might not see mainstream celebs with them because they are often edited out or have surgery to remove the “masculine” trait.

Angelina Jolie apparently had one but filled it out with implants; Jennifer Aniston’s is quite apparent in this pic.

Here is a very pretty girl on Flickr with a cleft chin.

I have slight one which is more apparent when I smile.

The Disney Star from Sonny with a Chance Demi Lovato

Of course they do.

Yes, it is a genetic trait. Normally they are not focused upon as much as they are in men, so they are noticed less often.

Sarcasm's avatar

NEVER.
not real ones, at least
edit: that is to say “not real women” not “not real clefts”. just to clarify.

Having a cleft chin is a recessive gene, like albino’s, or having a hitch hikers thumb

I had a friend who’s sister had an uber-cleft chin. kind of a Dudly Do-Right chin. (sometimes called a ‘lantern jaw’) It ws very unattractive. She later hat that fixed and she got engaged really soon after that. But we lost a good babysitter. bummer.

evegrimm's avatar

@shego, cleft chins are actually dominant. But you’re completely right about the thumb + albinism!

@lefteh Methinks she thanks you from the bottom of her heart for that photo – she’s never looked better!

@evegrimm thanks for the correction

Sure. What about Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot?

DarkScribe's avatar

They have clefts in far more interesting places.

What is the difference between a cleft and a dimple? I would say the ladies pictured all have dimples. That crater Kirk Douglas has is a lot more vertical and deep.

Sarcasm's avatar

I thought dimples were on your cheeks.

rooeytoo's avatar

I have a dent in my chin and it was always called a dimple.

sccrowell's avatar

My daughter has one! I’ve always wanted one! I remember my grandfather telling me to tape a raisin to my chin. I did and wouldn’t allow my mother to remove it.

rooeytoo's avatar

@sccrowell – heheh, interesting mental image.

knitfroggy's avatar

My mom and I both have cleft chins. I also have a dimple on one side. My uncle has a deep cleft like John Travolta. When I was a kid he told me that an angel kicked him in the chin and that’s how he got it. He also said he ripped the angel’s wings off. He’s kind of weird

peedub's avatar

My ex girlfriend did, and so does Juliette Lewis

Cleft Chins on women are the result of too many face lifts (that’s their navel), or evidence that they are really men, having gone through sex-reassignment surgery.
I’m looking at you Jessica Simpson!

le_inferno's avatar

Why are people hating on Jessica Simpson? She’s gorgeous.

casheroo's avatar

@aprilsimnel Mine comes out when I smile as well.

knitfroggy's avatar

@filmfann My mother and I both take offense to that! :P

“Meet Jessica Simpson.”

That was clefts…. Not breasts.

CMaz's avatar

Oh yea righ…. Now I see. :-)

Jeruba's avatar

A cleft is a permanent feature.. A dimple comes and goes with the movement of the cheek muscles. Those indentations in the chin are clefts, even though they’re sometimes referred to as dimples.

rooeytoo's avatar

Ahhhhhhhhhhh@Jeruba, thank you, that means I have a very slight cleft which turns into a much more noticeable dimple when I smile. It’s nice to learn new things about myself even at my advancing age, heheheh!

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

is it just me, or does Jennifer Aniston always look like she’s constipated?

AstroChuck's avatar

Dude, it’s just you.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

I have one. No one’s ever said it looked masculine, just cute.

DarkScribe's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra v

She does tend to look as though she has just sat on something unexpected – like a Pineapple.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

As far as the dimple versus cleft discussion, my family has always called mine a dimple. I think because it’s not as much of a vertical line, as it is a round indentation.

Guanaco's avatar

Yes women can have them. I have one and I am not overweight and I have had no plastic surgery. There is nothing wrong with them, beauty is relative. I personally would rather have inner beauty than the face of the prettiest celebrity. Inner beauty lasts, outer beauty fades.

xbluexeyesx's avatar

Woman can have cleft chins, whether or not it makes them sexier is up to personal opinion. I’m a girl and and I’ve had a cleft chin since birth. It was genetic – my dad has one and now I do too. On some people I think it looks really nice and cute even, though I hate mine. The amount of times I’ve been called ‘butt chin’ is ridiculous.
I’m not overweight, in fact, some people have said I’m underweight (though they’re ignorant), I also have not had plastic surgery of any sort. It’s just a natural thing, unfortunate in some cases though.
